SR-1 Rogue Bearing Speed Rope Review

Alright boys and girls,

First of all, let’s hear it for my sweet, “hipsterish” Instagram pic of the SR-1 Rogue Bearing Speed Rope. Second, this jump rope is freaking awesome. Here’s the info:

Double Under Problem Solved.

Built with a six inch, rotating handle for sure grip, the Rogue SR-1 is capable of unbeatable speed.  The bearing system allows for top-end revolutions and the coated cable adds speed and durability.  It’s built to last, the only thing that will break are your records.

Specifications:

  • Bearings: (4) Hi-Precision Cartridge Ball Bearings per rope
  • Handle Length: 6.1″
  • Cable: 10-ft Red Coated 3/32″ speed cable
  • Adjustment: adjustable end with a fixed swaged end
  • Indestructible Glass-Filled Nylon Resin Rogue Handgrip
  • Tapered handle, 1/2″ spindle to 7/8″ diameter base

Now that we’ve got that out of the way, let’s get into my review:

I hate double unders, I can do them fairly well, but I still hate them. However, right now the use of the Rogue SR-1 Rope has dropped my hatred of dubz to an all time low. I’ve had a Buddy Lee rope for a long time and really learned my DU on that. Now that I’m a fairly decent “exerciser” I can hit some longer strings of DU and that’s where this rope has been phenomenal. As much as I like my Buddy Lee, the weight of the rope was really taking it’s toll on my shoulders during really DU intense workouts. This was especially the case with longer workouts that were paired with some kind of upper body gymnastic movement or a upper body dominate barbell piece.

The second rope that I moved to after the Buddy Lee was one of the RX Jump Ropes. Great product and great company, but I’m not a huge fan of the handles, the cost, or the way that rope draws blood so willingly after a miss. However, the speed of rotation and the lighter weight of the actual rope portion of the jump rope confirmed that I was on the right track.

After spending $28 on my Buddy Lee Rope Master Jump Rope and $35 on my RX Jump Rope, I was kind of getting sick of dropping coin on jump ropes. However, the 38 super positive reviews on the Rogue site, and the fact that at $21.95 the SR-1 Rogue Bearing Speed Rope is the cheapest of the good ropes, made me feel confident in trying “one more rope.”

Well, here’s the verdict: I’m not going to be buying any more jump ropes. This is the best damn rope that I’ve used to date. There are also several other people up at the gym that have purchased the rope for the same reasons, great reviews and it’s a bargain, and they have PRed the heck out of their max double unders and all their workouts with DU in them. One of my buddies had been struggling with DU with his Buddy Lee rope for months picked up the SR-1 Rogue Bearing Speed Rope and has gone from hitting a few DU here and there to nailing consistent sets of 30+. I’ve seen the same results with my own double unders and am hitting sets of about double the reps that I had been for the last year or so.
